In the middle of marking two essays on different aspects of the American Revolution at the moment, so no extended comment - but here's a blog from Stanley Fish at The New York Times on the negative attitudes towards Hillary Clinton being expressed in the media and the blogosphere.
A minute is a long time in politics. The New York Times Caucus blog tells me first that John Edwards's team have decided upon a strategy that will build up delegates from the 'smaller markets' neglected by the bigger campaigns on Super Tuesday and in the subsequent primaries. I then learn from BBC News that John Edwards is being reported as withdrawing from the race for the Democratic nomination. An early end for a man I was assured back in 2004 would be the inevitable choice for the 2008 nomination.

I am put in mind of the episode of The West Wing where Alan Alda's character learns that he has just been beaten to a majority of electoral college votes by Matt Santos; his team come up with strategies for mounting legal challenges to the results in some states, but all Alda does is ask for a phone call to be set up with the president-elect. Sometimes a candidate knows when it's time to get out of the race.

As seen in today's Times (links to cartoon page - at the time of posting the relevant cartoon is the first one in the main column, but the arrangement will probably change.)
