The shouldn't-have-been-inevitable finally happened this week. I ended up working almost four whole days instead of the three that I'm contracted for. My former colleagues Tudorfoot and Sunwarrior warned me that this would happen, sending me e-mails headed '21 hours, no more, no less', and threatening to come to the office and beat me up if they found out I'd been in after 6pm. If they had done, considering the number of days that I've worked late since my working week was 'downsized' I doubt I'd have the strength in my body left to type this. I went into work for an 11am meeting today, intending to stay until about 3pm to cover the time lost by having to leave early on Tuesday for the book launch. In the event, I was there until about 6.40, retyping lists of monarchs. I wish I had the same enthusiasm for the task that I had when I was six or seven, but I doubt that they'd have employed me at that age, or, actually, that the work would have been as good.
I do get accused of romanticising my childhood sometimes. I think it's a rhetorical feint when I'm feeling low about other things, but (as I've certainly discussed with
na_lon) I'd rather be thirty-three than be six.
Some good news - I no longer have to keep the existence of the journal of
pennypaperbrain a secret. It's good to have her on my friends page.

is also welcome.
