Those who pay close attention to timestamps on my comments might have seen that I was up very late last night. This wasn't intentional; I returned early from Society T, and thought I'd tidy up an old unpublished article I'd found while transfering files from one PC to another, and donate it to the magazine of Society W, whose editor, Enginedriver, is a fellow superannuated person in OU society terms and, like me, has other things to do. This took about three hours longer than I had wanted; I dug out my four-year-old notes on the first attempt, thereby vindicating my intuitive filing system, but I then took a long time adding a couple of paragraphs and constructing a reading list, mainly of obscure fanzine articles. I've sent it to Enginedriver - but I need to get back to the other mini-magnum opus, the article on Buffy and Britishness, which will be this evening's project.

Today, however, I decided to paint my bedroom door. This I managed, although I'll have to see what I can do about flattening the surface before I put on a second coat, as I turned out to have been more enthusiastic with the white gloss than was necessary. I have at least made some progress before the next visit by my parents, who come armed with paintbrushes. The other project that I tried to take forward today was the direct transfer of files from my old PC to my new PC, but the cable that I purchased today turned out to be the wrong one, and on driving back to Oxford I found that the shop had closed, far earlier than I'd thought an 'out of town' store would. So I might have to schedule that tomorrow, as well as the walk (necessary to counterbalance the effects of the cake that I bought today), the purchase of shoes that I would like to precede the walk, and of course the German practice.
I need to think more about putting sentences together - I seem to have a fair memory for vocabulary and the grammatical sense that together help me puzzle out the sentences in the reader, but at the start of the lesson I have serious difficulty remembering how to express myself by assembling what I have learned into new forms, even when I have practised beforehand!
