This is an early hours post from a busy week. I'm finally catching up on a much-delayed TGW entry, which can thankfully be done without any primary research; I spent this afternoon ploughing through not-that-venerable books on the politics of the 1740s, in some cases only borrowed once from the faculty library in the last decade. Wednesday evening saw my stick my head round the door of
ousfg's pub dinner, though I had to leave before my vegetarian sausage and chips arrived. I hope that whoever ate them enjoyed them. (I was saved from starvation by the intervention of
narahttbbs and the sacrifice of a half-burger.)
On, then to the DSoc committee meeting - in practice all the active society bar one, in whose absence we voted to migrate the day of meetings from Tuesday to Thursday. The termcard is pretty good, though, and superficially daring - though as it's only us about we have no inhibitions about scheduling The Sensorites in second week. It ties in with Gridlock, anyway, as the Doctor's description of his home planet in the most recent episode was developed from a speech by Susan, the Doctor's granddaughter, in The Sensorites. Otherwise we venture into Sapphire and Steel territory with Assignment Four, and enjoy The Sea Devils (guest starring the Clangers) and will also meet The Five Doctors before subjecting ourselves to The Sontaran Experiment and The Happiness Patrol at the end of term.
I was saved from hanging around by the bus stop opposite the Royal Oak (quieter now that the Radcliffe Infirmary has closed) by Beruthiel who drove me up to the Pear Tree. We discussed job opportunities (lack of) and the disparity in salaries between academics who work in management, historians on research contracts, and university administrators.
