It's absolutely appropriate that this episode - leaving aside the pre-credits sequence - should start in the playground behind the Tylers' flat. Not only is this because Doctor Who is a children's adventure for everybody, but also because this is where Rose's second journey with the Doctor began at the start of 'New Earth'. She even has the rucksack, full of washing. All those who have said that they didn't like Rose this year because she reminded them of a gap year student can nod, vindicated.

I admired the pace of this episode - we were faced with the problem of the ghosts immediately, and by Jackie's naive belief that the 'ghost' who visited her flat was her dead father. I think it's entirely credible, if inexplicable shadow people started to make appearances, that many would decide that they were ghosts and treat them as such. There's enough to sketch in how society has accommodated the ghosts, though the conventional security forces may be starting to become worried, for example by the military formation on Westminster Bridge.

More to come later - but for the moment I'll note that
