Computers at work are always entertaining. While on the phone yesterday afternoon my workstation lost communication with the network, and then shut down altogether; attempts to restart it have caused it to spool nonsense on the monitor, and a visit from ITSD has confirmed that senile decrepitude has set in, and euthanasia is recommended. Farewell, then, Sun workstation wasat, after about twelve years' service to TGW.
ITSD want to send over another Sun station, but we have spares over here which we could use. We are planning to move over to PCs anyway, as apparently the Fell Press have surplus and the interface between the PCs used by admin and the UNIX database works better than the Citrix windows we use to access an MS desktop on the Suns, but that wheel is turning very slowly.
