BAFTA success!

Doctor Who has been named as best television drama series at the BAFTAs. I am very, very happy. I am by no means moved to jump up and down and hug people in the street, as football fans do when their clubs win championships. Nothing wrong with that, I'm just more reserved.

I'm pleased too that Russell T Davies has won the Dennis Potter award for outstanding television writing, but am not surprised that Doctor Who won the Pioneer audience award, chosen by voters on the BAFTA website.

Congratulations too to one of my favourite actresses, Anna Maxwell Martin, the brilliant Lyra from the first run of the National Theatre's His Dark Materials, who won best actress for her Esther in the BBC's Bleak House. She was, of course, a Doctor Who guest star last year in 'The Long Game'.
