I had a busy evening planned, as I was going to try to accept two invitations at once, perhaps a classic sign of indecision or just of overambition. After work, which I left at about 7pm, I was going to retrieve my car from the Park and Ride, drive into Oxford, and then meet with Sebastian of DSoc for his birthday drinks, before heading off to SocT's freshers' meeting. I'd already sent an e-mail to say that I would be late. However, I had doubts about spending the evening rushing from place to place after the last week, and did feel tired - so, on leaving the car park, I turned right and headed back up to Woodstock, where I made my excuses via e-mail.

E-mail has dominated the evening, as I've been sorting out my inbox, and throwing very little away as usual. (I can see myself, if TGW has to be downscaled and we move out of our Georgian house in Oxford, protecting our copious filing with my last breath as the removal persons turn up and forcibly remove it to be - horrors - archived in some warehouse outside our reach where we can't just go down to the wine cellars and pull out a file.) The floor is still littered with cardboard boxes and paper, but I'll sort some of that out this weekend. I have to mark my student's paper tomorrow; reading the documents she quotes from will be useful and even enjoyable - the eighteenth century enjoyed a high standard of debate - but I wish that I was more awake to do it, or that the libraries were open all day Saturday, and at all on Sunday. Oh, and that I could have a parallel weekend where I just slept!
