It's the first Monday in September - which means that the St Giles Fair is in full swing outside my office window. I don't mind it all that much but I'd rather not have a pulsing beat as a soundtrack to my working day. At least there isn't a ride threatening to hurl a chariotload of fair-goers through my window. For those who don't know (though most of you do) the fair takes over the main north-south street through Oxford, so it'll be interesting to see how long I have to wait for a bus on a street which has been reopened to through traffic for the duration of the fair - last year the bus was half an hour late!
