I thought I'd see how I did with this list, however, as [livejournal.com profile] wellinghall, [livejournal.com profile] begemotr and [livejournal.com profile] the_marquis have experimented with it, so:

"This is a list of the 50 most significant science fiction/fantasy novels, 1953-2002, according to the Science Fiction Book Club. Bold the ones you've read, strike-out the ones you hated, italicize those you started but never finished, and put an asterisk beside the ones you loved, and add a question mark if you can’t remember for sure."

Has anyone who has seen the SF Book Club list any suggestions for an alternative top fifty, or at least novels which they are surprised aren't included? This idea emerged over at [livejournal.com profile] gervase_fen's journal, as did another possibility, a list of influential British SF and fantasy.
